"Legalized marijuana is the fastest growing industry in America." -The Huffington Pot, April 2015
Earlier this month the state of Oregon began legalized recreational marijuana sales. The state joins Colorado, Washington, Alaska and Washington DC as states that have allowed medical and recreational weed sales. Momentum is gaining as 6-8 more states are expected to legalize recreational marijuana in the 2016 elections (including California, which will be HUGE).
In 2012 the legalized marijuana industry was a $2 Billion industry, and by 2020 is expected to be a $12-14 Billion industry. That's a lot of green.
As the industry is being built right before our eyes, it's worth noting much of this industry has existed in the shadows of society. It's been there all along, but without mainstream acceptance, the quality of brands and branding has been sub par.
Bakas Media has lived at the intersection of technology and a high level of branding with an emphasis on excellence and results. In recent years, it's been an intersection of technology, branding and alcohol. The move into cannabis is a natural progression as the cannabis industry is experiencing the exact same thing the alcohol industry experienced in the 1920's during prohibition. And both alcohol and cannabis will be controlled the same way in state where it's legal. In fact, in Oregon the Oregon Liquor commission will be in charge of both.
We see a tremendous opportunity to raise the overall brand perception of 'marijuana' and help businesses along the way.
